Beware Online Predators

There is something very frightening going on that most parents don't know about.  While most people do realize that there are internet predators, they really don't understand how many and what kind of organized groups they hang out in.  The fact is that there are pedophiles and sex offenders all over the internet.  Many of these sex offenders and pedophiles are very proud of their actions and thoughts; in fact, there are groups of these offenders trying to change laws in order to be able to indulge their sexual desires.  Most of them are convicted criminals and travel in circles of other convicted criminals – doing what?  They are looking for vulnerable children online.

Does Your Child Ride the Bus to School?

Being a school bus driver requires a love of children, a desire to see them safely to school and patience above words.  There are many school bus drivers who are completely dedicated and who are the best kind of people that you'd ever want to be around.  However, there are some that have been hauled into jail after enough parental complaints only to find out that these drivers have had previous crimes and convictions on their records.  How they manage to make it through the certification to drive a school bus is really a mystery, however, it happens.  No person wants to have a convicted criminal driving their child to school.  Your child's best interest comes first.

The Wheels on the Bus

The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, all through the town. But who is putting their foot on the pedal to propel the bus through the town? Teachers are the ones who mold children’s minds, educating them and giving them the principals and skills to make it in the world. Teachers should be praised and commended for this but one person who flies under the radar is the bus driver. They drive your
children to and from school. They are responsible for the well being and safety of your child once they set foot on that bus. There are plenty of good bus drivers out there but what about the bad ones?

Who is Emailing Your Child?

The internet is amazing these days.  Your child can go online and find information for any kind of school project they may be doing, homework, and study information.  It opens doors for kids the way nothing ever has.  Of course, it is also a favorite way for your child to keep in touch with friends and make new friends.  With social networking sites like Zubby, MySpace, and Friendster, your child can keep in touch with all of their friends and have some fun while they're doing it.

Online Friends

The internet is amazing; there's no doubt about that.  It gives us the power to reach out and instantly communicate with someone half a world away.  We are able to make great friends from places all over the world, from your hometown, to many continents away.  However, another thing the internet brings us is anonymity.  Someone can talk to you and give you the impression that they are one person when in reality they are someone totally different.

Do You Know Who Your Children Are Talking To?

Parenting is, no doubt, one of the most stressful, difficult jobs you will ever do.  But, it can be the most rewarding as well, if you are diligent.  The world, unfortunately, will do more to make the job harder than it will to help you.  Sometimes, raising children feels more like being a bodyguard as we keep our eyes open and our head constantly swiveling looking for potential harm or danger.  We never want to let our guard down, because it's so easy for our inexperienced kids to wander into trouble before they realize what they're doing.

Who Do You Trust?

We've all been in the position of buying something large, and not really knowing the person who wants to sell it to us.  You might be considering purchasing something from an individual rather than a company.  There are benefits to this, such as a lower price, and less hassle.  However, do you really trust the person you are going to be buying from?  There are so many scam artists and thieves just waiting to take you for all you have.  Wouldn't it be nice to know if the person you are buying from is an honest person?  It would be nice to at least see if they have been involved in questionable situations in the past.

Is Your Child Going to be Riding with Someone You Don't Know?

It happens every single day.  Your child's friend wants him or her to stay the night, so that friend's parent comes to pick them up.  Maybe your child is being watched by a babysitter that drives or any other situation where your child may be riding along with someone else.  Do you know how they drive?  Do you know if they have ever had tickets for speeding or running a red light, or if they have had a DUI?  This is pretty scary to think about.

Need to Find Someone?

My absolute favorite teacher of all time was my sixth grade Science teacher, Mrs. Keilborn.  She was funny and laid back and took a real interest in her students and their educations.  She always had a smile and a friendly word for me, and I think she favored me out of all of her other students.  That was quite all right, because she was my favorite teacher for sure.  It wasn't until years later that I realized what a profound impact she really had on me.

Know Who Your Children are Hanging out With?

As parents, we often worry about the kids our children spend time with.  Of course, in a perfect world, each of our children's friends would be the perfect role model, with wonderful grades, a polite demeanor, and plenty of goals and ambitions.  However, things seldom work that way.  While most parents stress over their child's friends, they rarely consider the other people their children are around regularly.  In fact, it can be quite frightening when considered this way.

Protecting Your Child

When your child is little, it's not hard to protect him or her.  In fact, it's pretty simple if you hold their hand tightly, teach them important numbers to call, and keep them close within your sight.   However, as they get older, they require more independence.  Your child may go to parties, sleepovers, concerts and more.  It gets a lot harder to protect them, and sometimes you wonder if you’ve covered everything they need to know in order to stay safe.  You will worry almost as much as you breathe.  Part of this is being a parent, and the other part is in knowing what you might have experienced as a child.  There are certain things you can do to protect your teenager or adolescent as well as you can.

Check for the Children's Sake!

Most parents drive their children around everywhere they go.  Has your child ever told you to 'just drop them off here?'  Most parents assume that their kids are too cool to be dropped off at the front door, or to be seen with their parents.  It's one of those things we roll our eyes at and get over.  However, what if your child is visiting somewhere he shouldn't be visiting.  You just never know what kind of people your child can end up hanging around with.  Next time you are asked to drop your child off in front of a house rather than walking him or her in, or next time your child wants you to drop him or her off down the block with no explanation, you may want to take note of the address.  Here's why.

Investigative Parenting

As a parent, it is our job to first and foremost insure the safety of our children.  While some people think that snooping into the affairs of their child is not a great idea, there are some people who would do anything to make sure that their children are safe.  If this means a little snooping action, then so be it.  Our children depend on us to make sure that they are safe and protected.  While they will probably argue about that statement, the truth is that no matter how much they act as if they don't like us, they really want to know that we will always protect them.  It doesn't matter the age either.  A child is a child forever.

Check Your New Friends

Moving to a new area can be daunting, especially when you are faced with the prospect of having to establish new relationships and friendships.  In a perfect world, you would be able to trust that everyone you meet is honest and forthcoming about their backgrounds and life experiences.  However, a large number of people do have a secret or two that they intentionally hide from the people that they meet.   That is why you need a little extra help to allow you to make informed decisions about the new people in your life.

Do You Know Who’s Watching You!

Unfortunately, sex offenders are lurking among us. They are in every state, every city, and most every town, and neighborhood
in the country. Experts agree there is no question that there are very dangerous sexual predators in the United States and elsewhere, who will never respond to treatment, and need desperately to be incarcerated and contained. The problem is, you have no way to know by looking, because these predators appear just like anyone else.

A Tragedy Prevented

Brock had used a website called www.CellPhoneRegistry.com one time to find out who the owner was of a cell number he had found in his briefcase.  It had been scrawled on a napkin and must have been there forever because he had totally forgotten where it came from.  After finding out about this website through a search online, he had found out that the number was from a client that he'd worked with several months prior.  After using the website that one time, he had forgotten about it.

Are You Doing Some Detective Work?

There are certain times in our lives, and certainly when we are parents, that we may need to do some detective work.  Many parents have experienced a situation where their child is spending time with someone new.  It could be a feeling or even a parent's intuition that says something is wrong.  It might be a new roommate for your older child who gives you an eerie feeling, or something else altogether.  Whatever the situation, there are times when you just don't feel right about someone.  As a parent, you feel you have to take action and do something, but you don't want to be the 'snooping' parent! What do you do in this situation?

Who Am I?

Haley loved her adopted mom and dad to pieces.  However, they were not the people that made her, and she always felt a need to find out who her biological parents were.  She had tried for years to find information about her birth parents.  Her adoptive parents only knew the name of her mother and where she used to live.  The adoption agency that her adoptive parents went through was unwilling to provide her with any other information.  She searched and searched the internet and the name of her mother.  She couldn't find any information anywhere.  She had started to think that perhaps she would never find out who her birth parents were.

John met Elizabeth at a coffee shop in Detroit.  She was beautiful and one single conversation with her left John wanting to learn more about her.  A marketing manager from Los Angeles, Elizabeth was gorgeous.  She had long, dark hair and eyes that made John's heart skip a beat.  They began talking on accident, when there were no other seats and Elizabeth offered for John to join her.  She ignored him at first, typing away on her laptop, but when John said, ...

Is There a Person That Gives You the Willies?

In a neighborhood in South Dakota, a mom and her three kids lived in a nice neighborhood.  Because she was a widow, the community was very helpful and supportive of her when she moved in.  They would bring her homemade meals, desserts and even offer to baby sit while she found a new job.  Of course, this woman was very happy about the support and such that she received.  The man who lived next door would often come out and talk to her over the fence.  She enjoyed gardening, so she would weed the garden and plant seeds while they chatted.  The woman noticed that her daughter enjoyed talking to the man as well.  Several times she watched the man laughing at her daughter's 8 year old jokes over the fence.  For some unknown reason, it made the hair on the back of her neck stand up.

You Don't Have to Snoop!

Most of the time, people don't feel the need to snoop through their partner's things.  If you're in a relationship, trust is very important.  Going behind their back just to find out who they have been talking to and what they are doing is morally wrong.  However, there are certain times that we feel the need to do a little plundering.  One of those times might be if you find a phone number in your partner's pants while you are doing the laundry.  In certain situations, this can be enough to drive you crazy.  Most of the time, it wouldn't bother you.  However, let's say he's been doing a lot of overtime at work.  Maybe he has missed dinner several nights in the past couple of weeks.
